Low back pain is an ailment that hits almost everyone at one time in their life. The lower back is part that connects the upper body to the lower body. It is also the lower back that carries most of our body’s weight. Because of this, it is injured very easily if we twist, bend or lift the wrong way. We spend a lot time getting low back pain treatment. Fortunately, most low back pain goes away within a few weeks with the basic low back pain treatment, unless an injury has occurred. If you have low back pain and it lasts more than a few weeks, you should see a doctor.

Low back pain occurs usually because of a strain, injury or overuse of your back such as a lot of heavy lifting or improper bending repeatedly. Many individuals that play sports when they’re not accustomed to playing will injure the lower part of their back and require low back pain treatment.

As we get older, our muscles and bones lose their strength, which puts them at risk of more injury. The discs that are between the vertebrae get weak from wear and tear through the years. When the discs are injured, they often put pressure on the low part of the back. Low back pain treatment is required in these situations as an injured disc can be quite painful. Many times a ruptured or injured disc may wind up requiring surgery as part of the low back pain treatment.

Low back treatment will consist of applying ice the first couple of days for up to 15 minutes at a time every couple of hours. Many people prefer to use heat, but this can do more damage that first day or two. Ice will prevent swelling and inflammation. After a day or two, you can switch to heat by using a heating pad or even taking a hot shower. A hot water bottle is often great for low back pain treatment.

Many over-the-counter medications such as Advil, Tylenol or Ibuprofen may be very helpful in relieving the pain. They are most effective when they are taken at the beginning of the pain and on a regular basis. Do not wait until the pain is unbearable and expect instant relief. Try to get rest the first couple of days. If you are in bed, try lying on your side with a pillow between your knees. If you really want to lie on your back, lay on the floor with pillows under your knees for better circulation. Bed rest for low back treatment should only last a day or two. After that time, it is best to get back to your normal routine as much as possible.

Exercise such as walking is a great form of low back pain treatment. If you see a physical therapist, they will often give you special exercises and stretches to help your back and prevent future problems.
